Bernie Sander's Progressive Tax Policy
Bernie Sanders believes there is an economic imbalance in the U.S and a massive wealth and income inequality as well. He also believes that the U.S needs a progressive tax system which is based on ability to pay. He wants to tax the richest Americans, those who earn over $400,000, at a rate of over 50%, instead of at the 39.6% rate they're being taxed at now.
Raising tax rates on richer Americans would be effective in helping the economy. The extra money from the wealthy would increase our federal budget and could be used for Medicare or Medicaid, Social Security, and for military spending. We could also use it to lower our national debt, thus helping our economy. Also, because Bernie Sanders wants to take the taxes from the wealthy and use them to lower taxes on middle and lower class Americans, most Americans would have more disposable income. Thus, aggregate demand would rise, which is shown is the graph below.
I am very supportive of Bernie Sander's position on taxes. We definitely have an income inequality in the U.S, and raising tax rates on incredibly rich Americans could help our economy and country overall.
I also support Bernie Sanders because overall his values are, for the most part, similar to mine. He is pro-choice, wants to make quality education affordable for everyone, wants more funding and services for victims of domestic violence, and advocated equal pay for equal work by women. He is a very progressive, liberal man who has good ideals.
